Bob Sheppard Talks Recording, Practicing, Chick Corea, and More
A household name for saxophonists worldwide, Bob Sheppard has done it all. Superstar names such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Perter Erskine, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and many, many, many legends pack his world-class resume. Splitting his time between Los Angeles, and New York, Bob’s forged working relationships with the best musicians on both coasts.
As a first-call multi-woodwind studio sideman, he’s played on over a hundred movie and television soundtracks, and can occasionally be heard soloing on the massively popular television show, American Idol.
With his new album, Close Your Eyes, Bob recruits Antonio Sanchez, Gabe Noel, John Beasley, and Alan Pasqua along with other greats to create a sonically rich interactive jazz experience.
As a passionate music educator, Sheppard is a part-time faculty member at the USC Thorton School of Music, and frequently a guest clinician at colleges around the country.

I enjoyed listening to the podcast, thanks for that. I had bought Bobs latest CD a few weeks ago so it was great to hear the man himself.

Great job, Doron! I really like Bob’s playing. I was driving a few weeks ago listening to the local jazz station and heard this amazing soprano solo. I had to sit in the parking lot waiting for the DJ to announce who it was. Of course, it was Bob!

I was excited to hear Bob went to Glassboro. I also went there in the 70s and studied with Manny Albam. I guess Bob and I didn’t overlap, but I did have the opportunity to play with Dennis DiBlasio. A great school in those days–and, I understand, it still is.
